Coronation of the Son

1 Why ^a do the nations rebel ^{▼▼Or conspire, or rage
,} ^c
and the peoples plot in vain? ^d
2 The kings of the earth take their stand, ^e
and the rulers conspire together
against the Lord and His Anointed One: ^{▼▼Or anointed one
,} ^g
3 “Let us tear off their chains
and free ourselves from their restraints.” ^{▼▼Lit and throw their ropes from us
,} ⁱ

4 The One enthroned ^{▼▼Lit who sits} in heaven laughs;
the Lord ridicules them. ^k
5 Then He speaks to them in His anger
and terrifies them in His wrath: ^l
6 “I have consecrated My King ^{▼▼Or king}
on ^{▼▼Zion: Originally a term for the fortified section of Jerusalem and then, by extension, used for the temple and the city of Jerusalem both in the present time and in the future}Zion, My holy mountain.” ^o

7 I will declare the Lord’s decree:
He said to Me, “You are My Son; ^{▼▼Or me, “You are My son}
today I have become Your ^{▼▼Or your} Father. ^r
8 Ask of Me,
and I will make the nations Your ^{▼▼Or your} inheritance
and the ends of the earth Your ^{▼▼Or your} possession. ^u
9 You will break ^{▼▼LXX, Syr, Tg read shepherd} them with a rod of iron;
You ^{▼▼Or you} will shatter them like pottery.” ^{▼▼Lit a potter’s vessel

10 So now, kings, be wise;
receive instruction, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with reverential awe
and rejoice with trembling. ^z
12 Pay homage to ^{▼▼Lit Kiss} the Son or He ^{▼▼Or son, otherwise he} will be angry
and you will perish in your rebellion, ^{▼▼Lit perish way
,} ^ad
for His ^{▼▼Or his} anger may ignite at any moment. ^af
All those who take refuge in Him ^{▼▼Or him} are happy. ^ah
